How the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston Benefit Youth

John McGourty serves as a consultant for National Financial Partners of Braintree, Massachusetts. Active in public service, John McGourty also has been a counselor for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB).

BGCB champions academic excellence for all youths, using developmentally sound, evidence-based methods. Tutors and other motivated adults enhance language literacy and build science, technology, engineering, and math skills to meet educational standards.

In addition, BGCB encourages success in jobs and colleges with SAT preparation and one-to-one advising during and after the school day, in cooperation with other helping organizations.

Addressing the importance of exercise and nutrition, BGCB serves well-balanced meals and offers many recreational activities. The Health360 plan adds to these goals a holistic approach to mindfulness skills, healthy relationships, sleep, and hygiene.

Finally, BGCB promotes good citizenship. Its Torch Club (ages 11-13) and Keystone Club (ages 14-18) challenge members toward greater civic activity, good character, and awareness of community needs.
